Wilt Chamberlain

Wilt "the Stilt" Chamberlain was one of the best centers to play basketball and is by some still considered the best player ever. He played for the University of Kansas, the Harlem Globe Trotters and from 1959-1972 in the NBA for the Philadelphia (then San Francisco) Warriors, the Philadelphia 76ers and the Los Angeles Lakers.

At 7-2/2,18m Wilt Chamberlain towered over his competition and due to his outstanding athleticism (he was once the NCAA high-jump champion) and strength overpowered most of his defenders.

Wilt Chamberlain shattered most scoring records and still has the second highest career scoring average (30.1 ppg) behind only Michael Jordan as well as the most rebounds all-time at 23,924. He even led the League in assists for one season. Chamberlain averaged an incredible 50.4 ppg in the 1961-62 season, including a 100-point game against the New York Knicks - a record considered one of the most untouchable in all of sports.

In spite of all his individual brilliance and four MVP awars, Chamberlain managed to win only two titles (in 1967 and 1972) as he was unable to single-handedly overcome the collective power of the Boston Celtics dynasty, which regularly abused his only weakness - free-throw shooting - by fouling him over and over again.

Chamberlain, who inspired many rule changes like offensive goaltending or a widening of the lane, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1978. In 1971, Wilt was offered a chance to fight Muhammad Ali, which he declined. In 1984, he acted in the film "Conan the Barbar" and in an interview claimed to have slept with over 20,000 women. Wilt Chamberlain died in 1999.
