NBA, Game 1: Boston vs. Detroit 88-79
This was actually a good start for the Boston Celtics to the Eastern Conference finals yesterday.
And I have to admit: I didn’t expect it. I supposed the Celtics to be too tired after going 14 matches all in all for the playoff’s First Round and semis.
On the other hand, to be honest – winning their home matches at TD Banknorth Garden will probably be their only chance to win the tie against the Detroit Pistons. And for that, what they need badly, is a good start at home, of course.
The 88-79 victory yesterday was Boston’s ninth playoff home win in a row. The eight preceding victories provided Boston the basis for their two Best-of-Seven-wins against the Atlanta Hawks and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
So it sounds like a good plan for the Celtics to confide in their strength at home. But will it be enough?
I think, this time, Boston needs more than four wins at TD Banknorth Garden. What they really need to succeed would be an early win in Detroit, as the team is in urgent need of a break after 14 matches in a row. Hoping for a decisive seventh game in Boston wouldn’t be enough that time, I believe.
That's why I keep up my prediction before Game 2: Detroit Pistons in six
Here are some quick facts from yesterday’s match:
- Kevin Garnett scored 26 points, collected 9 rebounds and delivered 4 assists for the Celtics
- Paul Pierce scored 22 points for the Celtics
- Rajon Rondo scored 11 points for the Celtics
- Tayshaun Prince scored 16 points for the Pistons
- Antonio McDyess scored 14 points for the Pistons
- Richard Hamilton scored 15 points for the Pistons
Game 2 will take place in Detroit on Thursday (8:30 p.m. ET).
